The fight for justice in the UK courts has begun, with KP Law leading the legal action against pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson (J&J) over the harmful effects of their talcum powder products. For decades, women and men across the UK have used J&J’s talc-based products, unaware of the hidden dangers that were present. Now, KP Law is standing up for those whose lives have been tragically altered by cancer, seeking accountability from J&J for their role in this scandal.

The Allegations: A Lifelong Threat

For decades, research has shown that talcum powder sold by J&J contained traces of asbestos—an incredibly dangerous substance linked to a range of cancers, including ovarian cancer, mesothelioma, and fallopian tube cancer. Despite knowing about the presence of asbestos in their products, J&J continued to market and sell talcum powder, promoting it as a safe and trusted product. The company’s negligence has left thousands of people with life-changing illnesses[IP1]  and sadly many others have lost their lives. KP Law is now stepping in to help victims secure the justice they deserve.

A Timeline of Corporate Negligence: 1950s – 2025

  • 1950s onwards: Traces of Asbestos Found
Studies reveal that talcum powder contained traces of asbestos, a known carcinogen. Research has indicated that long-term use of talc could lead to ovarian, mesothelioma, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancer.
  • J&J Continues Selling
Despite this knowledge, J&J continued to sell and market their talcum powder products, building trust while hiding the dangers. They failed to warn the public about the risks associated with their products.
  • J&J Exposed
In 2020, J&J began changing its manufacturing process to remove asbestos from its talcum powder products in the United States. However, it wasn’t until 2023—three years later—that the company made the same change in the UK. This delay has put countless more people at risk, as UK customers continued to be exposed to the dangers of asbestos-laced talc for a further 3 years.
  • Cancer Risks Acknowledged
In July 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a formal warning about the potential cancer risks linked to talcum powder. The WHO classified talc as “probably carcinogenic” to humans, citing strong evidence that talc exposure could cause ovarian cancer and other cancers linked to asbestos.

KP Law Leads the Charge

KP Law has taken the lead in the UK to hold J&J accountable for the harm caused by its talcum powder products. With more than 2,000 claimants already represented, KP Law is determined to secure justice for victims, many of whom have suffered from devastating cancers and, in some cases, lost their lives.

Tom Longstaff, a partner at KP Law and the lead lawyer in the UK case, expressed the gravity of the situation, saying, “These innocent individuals have experienced life-changing illnesses, and in some cases, they’ve tragically passed away. It’s time for J&J to be held accountable for its actions and for the lives that have been destroyed due to corporate negligence and greed.”

A Global Scandal with Local Consequences

J&J has already set aside more than $10 billion to settle talc-related lawsuits in the United States, acknowledging the devastating impact their products have had on people. However, the company has yet to take full responsibility for the suffering of individuals in the UK. The legal case being led by KP Law represents a pivotal moment for the thousands of people in the UK who were exposed to asbestos in J&J’s talc products and have since been diagnosed with cancer.

Seeking Justice: What’s at Stake?

This case is about more than just compensation—it’s about sending a message to corporations that prioritise profit over the safety of their customers. KP Law is committed to ensuring that J&J is held fully accountable for its role in this scandal and that victims, both those who have survived and the families of those who have tragically passed away, receive the justice they deserve.
