What is talcum powder cancer?
What is talcum powder cancer? Here, we explain what talcum powder cancer refers to and the facts behind it.
BBC breaks the news, highlighting the outrage in the UK over Johnson & Johnson putting profit and corporate greed above customers health.
KP Law is leading the fight for potentially thousands of cancer victims and the families of those who have since died due to using talcum powder. Following several talcum powder claims in the US, our group litigation claim aims to secure justice for UK consumers.
Scientists believe there is a link between the extended use of talcum powder and an increased risk of various types of cancer. With more and more findings pointing to a connection, we are committed to advocating for those affected.
By bringing together affected individuals, we aim to strengthen our collective effort to hold manufacturers responsible for the harm caused by their products.
If you or a loved one has experienced cancer and used talcum powder extensively, take the first step towards seeking justice today. We are running this case on a no-win, no-fee basis. This means if the case is unsuccessful, we won’t charge you any fees.
Our lawyers are pursuing a claim against Johnson & Johnson. We believe the US-based multi-national corporation knew as early as the 1970s that asbestos in its talc products was dangerous but failed to warn consumers and carried on producing and selling the products in the UK up to 2022.
The global giant has already set aside more than $6bn to settle ovarian cancer cases in the US with a further amount of more than $4bn for people diagnosed with mesothelioma. Victims in the UK deserve compensation too.
See our new TV commercial that highlights the risk that using talcum powder could have caused cancer and the fact that Johnson and Johnson hid the dangers of using its talcum powder for years, putting profit and corporate greed above customers health.
There are several illnesses which scientists believe can be caused by the significant use of talc products. These include:
Mesothelioma is an asbestos-related cancer. It’s caused by inhaling asbestos dust. Over time, the damage caused can change and create cancerous cells. It can take quite a long time for mesothelioma to develop following exposure to asbestos dust, although symptoms can sometimes begin after approximately ten years. Unfortunately, there’s no cure for mesothelioma. Both talc and asbestos are naturally occurring minerals, and they are often mined alongside one another. The cross-contamination of baby powder with asbestos has posed a serious health risk.
Ovarian cancer is a cancer of the ovaries. Cancerous cells form in the ovaries and grow quickly, destroying healthy body tissue and eventually forming a tumour. There are numerous causes of ovarian cancer, including an inherited faulty gene. However, it’s believed that a significant use of talcum powder can also cause ovarian cancer. One study has found that women who use talc regularly have a 36% higher risk of ovarian cancer.
Fallopian tube cancer, or serous fallopian tube carcinoma, is similar to ovarian cancer. The cancerous cells start in the fallopian tube, which is attached to the ovaries and, like ovarian cancer, can grow quickly until eventually forming a tumour. The potential link between talcum powder use and fallopian tube cancer has been the subject of several scientific investigations and legal cases.
Peritoneal cancer, or primary peritoneal serous carcinoma, is a rare form of cancer that forms in a thin layer of tissue that lines the abdomen. This cancer is very similar to ovarian cancer, but it can also affect men. Although the causes of peritoneal cancer are unknown, we believe those who’ve used talcum powder products regularly may be affected.
Some manufacturers failed to ensure that the talcum powder on sale in the UK was free from asbestos. Additionally, they failed to tell UK consumers about the risks. If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer or peritoneal cancer, and have used talcum powder over a period of time, we can help you seek justice and compensation.
Talc is a naturally occurring mineral found in rock deposits. It’s mined from underground deposits before it’s crushed and milled into a fine powder. Talc is used to absorb moisture and reduce friction, making it useful for keeping skin dry and helping to prevent rashes, making it a common ingredient in body and facial powders. Unfortunately, talc is often found near asbestos, which means when mined, cross-contamination is a possibility. Asbestos is a natural fibrous mineral. When inhaled, the microscopic asbestos fibres can cause serious respiratory conditions, such as asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma.
Studies completed in the 1960s and 1970s raised concerns that cross-contamination of talc and asbestos may have occurred when mined. This means that asbestos fibres, which can cause serious harm, may have been present in the talc. However, despite the concerns raised in these early studies, no action was taken by the manufacturers.
Not only did they continue to mine talc, but they didn’t warn consumers about the risks of using talc products, knowing that they may have contained harmful asbestos.
As a result, there are a significant number of people who’ve gone on to develop asbestos-related illnesses, which we believe has been caused through significant use of talc products.
When people have suffered from or lost loved ones as a result of someone else’s negligence, we believe those at fault should be held to account for their wrongdoing.
Manufacturers should have provided consumers with proper safety warnings about the potential risks of using talc products. If they had done this, it’s likely that the suffering and loss of so many people could have been prevented. Instead, we believe thousands of people in the UK may have unnecessarily been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, mesothelioma, serous fallopian cancer or serous primary peritoneal cancer.
This is why we launched a talc claim. We are seeking justice and compensation for those affected, and we aim to hold the manufacturers responsible to account. If you believe you’re affected, sign up to join the claim.
If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, ovarian cancer, serous fallopian cancer or serious primary peritoneal cancer, and have used talcum powder regularly for five or more years, you may be able to join the claim.
Simply register with us, and our experts will be in touch.
There are several studies which demonstrate the link between the use of cosmetic talc and cancers. We work with various medical experts who will help present our case to a judge.
If you have a loved one who passed away because of mesothelioma or ovarian cancer, and they used talc on a regular basis, you may be able to join the claim. Simply register your details to join the claim, and one of our specialists will be in touch.
We don’t believe that the cost of legal representation should prevent people from seeking justice and compensation. Especially those who’ve suffered illness or lost loved ones due to someone else’s negligence.
That’s why we’re representing claimants in this talc claim on a ‘no win, no fee’ basis. Basically, this means if you lose the case, you won’t have to pay any fees, so there’s no financial risk. If you win the case, you’ll be paid compensation, and your legal fees will be deducted from your compensation.
The amount of fees deducted from your compensation if you win will be a percentage of the total value of your claim. The percentage will depend on various factors, such as the amount of costs that talc manufacturers are ordered to pay. Full details of the funding are included in the paperwork you’ll receive when you join the claim.
To make things as simple as possible, we’ve created a quick and easy registration process. Our registration form asks you a series of questions. Your answers to these questions will enable us to assess whether or not you may have a talc claim.
Once you’ve registered to join the claim, it will be allocated to one of our legal specialists who will be in touch to explain the next steps.
At certain stages of the claim, we may ask you to provide supporting documents, so please make sure you keep any records that you have. We’re likely to request evidence of your diagnosis of mesothelioma, ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer and/or peritoneal cancer. Don’t worry if you don’t have these documents. We can provide guidance to help you obtain them. If you’re acting as a personal representative, we’ll also need documents to prove your authority.
We’ll keep in touch throughout the progress of the claim by email, so please make sure you add our email address to your safe senders list.
Typically, this type of case can take up to 3-5 years to go through the courts. Although we can’t control how long it will take, we’ll do everything we can to progress the claim as quickly and efficiently as possible.
At this stage, it’s difficult for us to predict the amount of compensation you’re likely to receive. It depends on a number of factors, such as the severity of your diagnosis and the financial losses you’ve incurred as a result. However, as soon as the case is at a stage where we’re able to provide you with an estimate, we’ll be in touch
If the claim is unsuccessful, we’ll let you know without delay and will explain the reasons why.
There’ll be no need to worry about having to pay legal fees. As your case will be funded by a ‘no win, no fee’ agreement, you will be protected from having to pay costs, as long as you keep to your responsibilities under our agreement.

There’s a lot of support for people with mesothelioma which has been caused by talcum powder. Find out how you can access it.
When talc is mined, there’s a significant risk of cross-contamination, given its close proximity to asbestos. This means there’s a high probability that asbestos fibres have been present in talcum powder products.
